1. Communication: Read, write, listen, and speak effectively to share meaning in a diverse world.

I have chosen the “Bethesda Community Assessment” assignment from NUR 402. This was a group project which involved both a paper and Powerpoint. As members of this project, we communicated well through planned teleconference meetings as well as group text messages. This project aimed to communicate strengths and weaknesses of the community of Bethesda, MD. It also involves a plan on how to rectify some of the weaknesses.

2. Critical Thinking: Analyze, synthesize, and evaluate ideas and information from multiple perspectives to make decisions and solve problems.

In this assignment, we were asked to consider how we would care for a critical patient during a hospital crisis without power. This assignment allowed me to “think outside the box” and put myself in a patient situation I had not experienced before. We had to consider patient care from multiple perspectives when our regular, daily technology is available- IV drips, medication management, multidisciplinary collaboration, etc.

3. Spirituality and Ethics: Draw upon spiritual, philosophical, religious, and Benedictine traditions to express and act upon a principled set of values.

The Vice Field Report, an assignment for PHI 308 (Ethics) allowed me to identify a personal vice and note how it may affect my relationship with God and neighbor. It also had me identify ways to combat this vice, in order to grow in virtue and become more of the man God wants me to be.

4. Global Stewardship: Respect and be critically aware of oneself and the diverse world to protect and strengthen natural, cultural, and social environments.

In this assignment for NUR 468, I was able to broaden my horizons of public and global health concerns by evaluating the public health crisis in Ethiopia. I was able to determine a variety of health concerns- health disparities, political conflict/violence, and hunger.
